Being seen as 'the cancer mom' of three small children.

It's sneaky.

Sept. 05 I began having what felt like menstral cramping after my period. Timing was off, the cramps would come and go. After years of being told I had IBS, after 3 pregnancies, I had a colonoscopy in 11/07 & was told that day I had a malignant tumor. The troublesome part is that the Dr’s could have caught this 2 years ago. I was even in the ER in 10/06 complaining of severe abdominal pain & was sent home. They thought it was food poisoning & pregnancy. For a whole year I suffered with ‘blockage’ symptoms (vomiting & pain).

I had 12” of my Sigmoid Colon removed on 11/19/07. The tumor was 4.3cm at the colonoscopy, but more accurately measured 6.1cm after resection. There were 14 out of 32 lymph nodes with cancer cells present.

I had my 1st chemo treatment on 12/10/07. If cancer cells remain, they are microscopic and floating around in my body and being ZAPPED by chemo! I qualified for a trial and receive Erbitux (usually for metastatic cancer) every week (which causes acne). The nausea is gone for now, mouth sores are fading, and acne is blossoming. The Oxilaplatin will be decreased next time due to the mouth sores. It also causes Neuropathy.

Testing...testing...1...2...3...is this thing on???Views: 626

Ah-hem. Where do I begin. Well, not to drive you nuts, but I am tired and just put my somewhat lengthy profile together and now I must get to bed. I believe my profile says it all at this point.

I am feeling good about this website and looking forward to ‘blogging’ with you all. (new to this)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Melanie – So glad you found us. That little one is so adorable. too cute. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Melanie. Welcome to our little neighborhood.

Grace

Thanks for the welcome! Here’s an update:

12/10/07 Round 1 chemo. Ding ding ding. Had some nausea & fatigue. Gloves are on for the next round.

12/17/07 Erbitux only (trial drug) Had sunburn feeling on face & acne like rash on my nose days later (still hanging around)

12/26/07 Round 2 chemo. Feeling like only 50% here. Fatigue & in no mood to do anything. Face & scalp are dry and flaky. It’s bothersome with the dryness & itching. Could be worse though. Neuropathy comes and goes. Holding something cold feels like dry ice. 10 more chemo’s to go.

12/31/07 Erbitux only (every Mon. Erbitux/trial drug) and every other week is chemo.

I still cannot believe this is happening to me. But when I think about the past, it freaks me out even more to think that I’ve been living w/ cancer for many years (maybe 10?) and I didn’t know it. At least I’ve been enjoying life and growing in faith over the years. My husband has Jeremy Camp on right now. It’s a reminder that he lost his wife. So sad. I have no plans to go anywhere though! I have too many things to do! :)

I think you sound very strong. Your photo is adorable! I am hoping that you are still feeling ok!

8 down 4 to go. Feeling cruddy, but I did have a nice Easter (prior to chemo) and a fun trip to the Woodland Park Zoo. My skin is a mess (face rash & dry spots that itch so badly on my knees and elbow areas) and I am hoping that vomiting won’t start in w/ the next treatment. I can barely eat or drink anything too. It’s a struggle. I’ve lost 30 lbs (mid Nov to Jan/Feb) and holding. May cannot get here soon enough.
